The Palais Garnier in Paris presents Mayerling, a ballet by choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, from October 29 to November 16, 2024. Mayerling is inspired by a historical event: the suicide of Rudolf, son of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph and Elisabeth, also known as Sissi, with his mistress Marie Vetsera. Performed to music by Franz Liszt, the choreography alternates between grandiose passages and more intimate scenes. Entering the Paris Opera repertoire in 2022, the show was first performed in London in 1978.
