Discover Giuseppe Verdi's ‘Rigoletto’ at the Opéra Bastille until 12 June 2025! Premiered in 1851 at La Fenice in Venice, the opera inspired by Victor Hugo's play Le roi s'amuse was one of the Italian composer's first great successes. The opera focuses on Rigoletto, a complex character who plays the Duke of Mantua's jester, assists his master in the seduction of women, and is a caring and protective father to his daughter Gilda. The production is directed by Claus Guth.
