Director Krzysztof Warlikowski brings to life, in a historical fresco, the thwarted love affair between the Infante of Spain and Elisabeth of Valois.
Whether political, familial or religious, conflict is at the heart of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Don Carlos. The opera, presented at the Opéra Bastille from 29 March to 25 April 2025, is presented as a fictional historical fresco set in the 16th century. Directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski, with musical direction by Simone Young, the plot revolves around the thwarted love between Don Carlos, Infant of Spain, and Elisabeth of Valois, freedom and the questioning of authority.
