Suzanne Valadon - La chambre bleue, 1923

Discover more than 200 paintings and drawings by this self-taught painter, an emblematic figure of modern art.

From 15 January to 26 May 2025, the Centre Pompidou is devoting a retrospective to the self-taught painter Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938), who was one of the leading figures on the art scene in the first half of the 20th century. This exhibition, featuring almost 200 paintings and drawings, presents her career, from her early years as a model and muse for the painters of the Butte Montmartre to her recognition as an artist by her peers and friends. Her painting, on the fringes of the currents of the time, is vibrant and powerful, and she likes to express herself on large-format canvases. Resolutely avant-garde and modern, she was interested in intimate, everyday scenes and challenged the genre of the nude, whether female or male, by placing it at the centre of her work.
From 11am to 9pm. From 11am to 11pm Thursday. Closed on Tuesday and 1 May
