Laszlo Ruszka, Chantal Akerman sur le tournage du documentaire « Dis-moi » réalisé dans le cadre de la collection « Grand-mères » dirigée par Jean Frapat, 28 mars 1980

The Jeu de Paume is paying tribute to the Belgian filmmaker, artist and writer Chantal Akerman (1950-2015) with an exceptional exhibition organised in collaboration with the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Chantal Akerman Foundation and the Royal Film Archive of Belgium.

Chantal Akerman. Travelling retraces the atypical career of this emblematic figure who continues to inspire and fascinate generations of artists and film-lovers, and whose film ‘Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles’ was awarded the title of ‘Best film of all time’ in 2022 by the British magazine Sight&Sound. The exhibition at the Jeu de Paume offers a dialogue between his films, his installations and a biofilmography containing previously unseen archives. Following the stages of her career, it is an invitation to explore the years and places she has travelled and filmed, from her beginnings in Brussels to Mexico, via Paris and New York. Echoing the exhibition, this autumn's cultural programme is entirely devoted to Chantal Akerman, presenting a selection of her films - some on film - as well as performances, readings and meetings.
