After hosting numerous sporting competitions such as the European Football Championship in 2016, the Ryder Cup in 2018 and the League of Legends World Cup Final in 2019, Paris is now preparing to host other major international sporting events, including the Rugby World Cup 2023 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024.
On May 25, the Convention Bureau of Paris je t’aime – Tourist Office organized a webinar for international sports federations and associations to present the capital's assets for organizing their events: here are the key points.
With more than 50 million visitors per year, Paris has a wide range of infrastructures, an outstanding service offer and a vast public transportation network. This year, several new venues have opened their doors and are available for private hire for your events. For cultural openings, don't miss Bourse de Commerce and the Hôtel de la Marine as well as the event spaces, the CNIT Forest and La Serre de VIPARIS .
Hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games has allowed many innovative development projects to accelerate. The emphasis is on sustainable projects, notably, the construction of a huge garden linking Trocadero to the Eiffel Tower to facilitate the circulation of the 30 million annual visitors. Furthermore, the Place de la Concorde will be given a facelift and will be much more pedestrian-friendly. In terms of transportation, an immense project to develop bicycle paths is underway and, by 2030, 650 km of bicycle paths will link the major hubs of Ile-de-France as part of the RER V project, in addition to the thousands of kilometres of existing paths.
These large-scale projects will provide visitors and Parisians with a unique experience.
The City of Paris aims to organize sustainable sports competitions through the participation and mobilization of its citizens, and by building a legacy for the benefit of the areas after the event. It also ensures the success of events and their legacy for Parisians by supporting the organizing committees. Paris' rich heritage is highlighted during these events by transforming public spaces into playgrounds, promising not only a memorable spectacle but an immersive experience for visitors.
During the webinar, the General Manager of the French Paralympic Committee shared his application experience to host the International Paralympic Committee's General Assembly. One of the key points of the proposal focused on "living Paris".
Much more than a museum city, the capital’s major asset is its diverse offer. Monumental, innovative, remarkable... Paris has many facets that correspond to all types of audiences. The Convention Bureau assisted the CPF in the different stages of this bid, particularly in the search for a venue suited for the General Assembly.
